Hiawatha First Nation Has Issued a Fire Ban

Back to News

Please Note: EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

Following the lead and guidance of the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan Fire and Emergency Services, Hiawatha First Nation declares a Fire Ban in place. With warmer weather upon us and the potential of larger fires occurring, we want to protect our citizens and our fire personnel. This ban will help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus by limiting the need for the large number of firefighters required to extinguish grass and brush fires. The burn ban on open air burning is in effect until further notice.

Ban Guidelines:

Types of Fires Allowed

– For Ceremony
– SMALL, CONTAINED, backyard fires with the family whom you reside.
These types of fires MUST BE SUPERVISED at all times and please cover with a grate if possible.

Types of Fires NOT Allowed:

– Big Bonfires
– Open air burning of garbage, grass, trees, or brush
– Burning of garbage in a barrel
