The Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan, in conjunction with Trent Severn Waterway and Otonabee Conservation advises all residents in the Otonabee River area that there is a potential for continued flooding over the next several days due to the formation of frazil ice.
This occurs when when water and air temperatures suddenly plunge causing a damming affect which may cause flood conditions and the sudden rapid rise of water levels.
We have been advised that current conditions may worsen, before it starts to improve, with little notice.
All residents in OSM, in low lying and flood prone areas are asked to take immediate action for their personal safety and valued property, and to monitor the water levels in their area.
Residents are asked to make the necessary arrangements for alternate accommodations for their safety, if and when required.
The Otonabee-South Monaghan Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) will be monitoring the situation on an on-going basis until the current conditions subside.
During flood situations, emergency services response, including Police, Fire and EMS, will be significantly affected. Response times may be greatly lengthened and/or service may be inhibited due to flooded roads and lanes.
